Lolz so I just realized that in this post I'm reflecting on a whole week which pretty much goes against the title..."a day in the scatterbrain" BUT LOLZ!! WHO CARES!!! THIS IS MY BLOG! I DO WHAT I WANT!!! So if you get easily bothered like I do, pretend that "day" is actually "week"

So as you remember from last post, I was sort of going through a 2 day depression revolving around band..quoting my past self: "To be honest, band is not the biggest passion in my life right now, and I feel the spark and excitement that comes with it shrinking with time." Like it scares me when I think about now. How did? How did my mood just CHANGE??? How did it like GO?? I remember the day dwelling on how much band sucks and how much I hate it and how absolutely miserable everything was..IT WUZ BAD! IT SUCKED POOPY! MANY BAD EMOTIONS! NOT COOL SONIC!! (reference) And get this bro..the next day! THE NEXT DAY!!! I was doing just fine!! I was chill! And relatively happy! And enjoyed band class! And I was all like: "Maybe band isn't so bad after all! Maybe it's a lot more enjoyable than I thought it was! Maybe

WHAT

HOW? WHO? WHEN? WHERE? EMI! WHAT?? I know bro that's what I said too!!! 

But then I remembered!!! The moon!! According to my one of my super awesome bestie westies, Walrus, I was going through this similar process, AND I QUOTE! "'I've been working hard, but, I'm still victim to the ominous alignment my body has to the moon's cycle." (hi walrus do u like my you reference)

THE MOON'S CYCLE! THAT WAS IT!!! THAT EXPLAINED IT! MY SUDDEN DEPRESSION! which is actually really funny because the moon decided to jumpscare my invisible balls like a week later BUT ALAS! That definitely was one of the factors of my 2 day depression! Joy!! 

So how about now, Emi? You still hate band or what? 

My answer! NO! 

As much as it is tedious sometimes, that including the music, demands, commitment, and some of the  people, band is still a major part of my life! Like tremendous!! I go wayyy back with it, starting it all in the 6th grade, and I swear most of my socialization sprouted there in the band room than any other place. I have friends in the program! My bestie westie Isa! Buddies! Even acquaintances! The community! A chance to express yourself! Bertha (my sax)! A chance to be seen! Passion! Creativity! Things to stay for! WE ARE STAYING! Proud to say I only thought of quitting ONCE!! WOOOHOOO!!

PROOF THAT WE GO WAY BACK! Only time I'll ever show 7th grade Emi, she's currently locked away in the "Emi Prison" along with 8th grade Emi, 6th grade Emi, Anxious Emi, Angry Emi, Moody Margaret Emi, Negative Nancy Emi, Jealous Emi, and Overthinking Emi :DDDDDD

SO YEAHSIES!!! And so now because I have exited my band depression, I'm more positive about the many events that are coming up with it! :3 One of which being.....

SECTION LEADER APPLICATIONS!

Last time I was talking about how unsure I was with the whole thing as band depression was beating me up and dragging me on the floor throughout it all...BUT IM BACK! I PESERVERED AGAIN!! GOD GIVES HIS BIGGEST BATTLES TO HIS STRONGEST SOLDIERS!

GOD GIVES HIS BIGGEST BATTLES TO HIS STRONGEST SOLDIERS! AND I ROSE OUT OF THE ASHES!!! AGAIN!! After rising out of the ashes, I thought once more if I wanted to take on leadership! To be a lot more sure of my decision, I talked with my big brother best friend for ever (BBBFF) (reference) and therapist and they both thought I should go for it!! YAYYYYY!!

 My brother, who was once a section leader himself, said that I should apply to show my band director that I care for the program and a potential upgrade to my resume, while my therapist suggested that I should do it to learn some new super awesome life skills (leadership, communication, that good stuff) and step out of my comfort zone!

After hearing their feedback, I sat down with myself and was all like "Well if I do get the position, it's going to be challenging, butttt then again this is something I wanted to do since about the 8th grade mostly due to the fact that I wanted to be like my brother because he's super awesome and stuff BUT IT'S A BIT MORE DIFFERENT NOW!!! 

SOME REAL TALK!

I have found myself to really love the community that band creates :) And one of the things that I have valued the most since joining the SOT (sound of thunder) is being close with my community, especially those within my section :D! Back in my freshman year, I had these super awesome section leaders that actually formed socials so the section could get to know each other better! It was kickass :D We went to town center together, ate at Yum Korea, hung out and played smash bros, had a pool hangout, IT WAS GREATSIES! I had awesome times with the saxes, and genuinely felt a lot closer with them because of it :)

My sophomore year however, wasn't very social (as in we didn't have any at all) I'm not gonna get too into it because I'm not gonna try to diss anyone on a website that other humans can see :D (tldr new leaders came in and they didn't do much with the section). This wasn't so awesome! I didn't feel as close to my section this year as I did the year before! We had some sectionals at the start of the season that were pretty fun and stuff but they were no social (frowny face)

And so from the lack of socials and community and section bonding and stuff I was all like "BRO! I WANT TO CARE FOR THE SAXES! I BEFRIEND THEM! AND MAKE THEM FEEL LIKE THEY'RE APART OF SOMETHING GREAT! YEAH! :DDD 

Basic summary: I really want to care and cultivate a community :3 I'm really good at caring, so that's a great start! WOOHOO!! 

As for the musical aspect of being a section leader

I can already see it coming it's gonna be my arch nemesis. 

One of the requirements for being a section leader is that you have to lead sectionals, which are basically little practice sessions with your section and your section only. JOY! As said probably many times before here on this blog, I'm decent when it comes to music, likkeee if I ranked my ability out of 10 it would 6.8/10! The biggest absolute most detrimental thing that I struggle with the most however has to be counting. counting. counting. COUNTING.

I told this big bad concern to my big brother best friend forever and he was all like, "yeahhh man you basically have to be a metronome for your section during sectionals, so LAWK IN on counting" and I wuz then all like "how do I get better at counting broski" and then he was like "practice with a metronome" and then I said "awesome but can I also clap with a metronome? :0 Like can I put it on a certain tempo and clap along with it or would I look like a mfka in a rubber room full of rats" and then he was like "yeah"

Along with counting, I also need to LAWK IN on music theory! HELLA MUSIC THEORY! Well not an insane amount but enough to know how to give goated feedback during sectionals that can actually help my section improve! I may watch a couple of YouTube videos all about music theory and engrain it all into my brain! I WILL INTERNALIZE IT! I WILL BURN IT INTO MY SKULL IF I HAVE TO!

Interviews for leadership/officer positions start next week, and I think I'm ready! Just need to rehearse by talking to a stuffed animal and pretend it's my band director! Shouldn't be too bad! I'm ready! I'm ready!

In all seriousness, this week academically was pretty good! :D I took about like what...3 exams this past week? She said tentatively? Lemme see...

I feel very proud of myself and that's super cool and awesome because I feel like I don't do that enough :)

OTHER THINGS THIS PAST WEEK! 

On Thursday, right after band rehearsal, I went to see La La Land in concert with my dad! As you may have already assumed, I did have to sacrifice my sleep in order to stay around for the whole thing (that went on till 10). Was it worth it???

YES. OH MY GOSHY GOSH YES.

I smiled, laughed, cried, felt that lil tingly feeling in ur stomach when you feel really happy and inspired 

IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I already knew at the start of the performance that the whole thing was going to be actually life changing because words CANNOT describe how happy I was during the first song of the movie. ANOTHER DAY OF SUN! Arguably one of the best songs in this whole wide world I swear to gob no joke it makes me so incredibly happy. AND GET THIS??? I GOT TO SEE IT GET PLAYED LIVE!!! I ALMOST CRIED. AND THE DIRECTOR. THE DIRECTOR OF THE BAND WAS JUSTIN HURWITZ HIMSELF!!! He's the guy who wrote all the music for the movie!!! :DDD THE GUY!! HE'S THE GUYYYYYYYY!!!!

In summary, sacrificing my sleep for this concert was absolutely one of the best decisions I've ever made. LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I gots to hear all about it homie. OH!!! AND LMK IF U MADE THE POSITION!!! If you did, HELL YEAHH!!! YOU GO GIRL!!! If you didn't, THATS OKAY! That just means you have a lot to learn and you surely will throughout the new marching season! By the end you'll be a seasoned warrior with hella knowledge! KEEP GOING!!! DON'T STOP!!!!!!)
